That means the fit of most headers on your B engine will be less then ideal. I have never owned a 383 or 400 engine so I am curious as to how a lower deck height could affect header fitment so much. The ports are the same, just a little lower. Just in theory, I'd think that clearance would be better with a 383/400.
The last 8 lugger I did still has the factory junkyard R&P, pinion bearings. New ends, perches, axles, side bearings, spool. Not including the core (in our case free), my free labor less than $700. Now if you add a new R&P and sure grip maybe $1400. Its been 1.38 60ft/9.55@142, 3750lbs using a trans brake.

The nomenclature begins when the particular platform of assembly of the auto, starts. Just as 1979 was the last year of the "B" body platform production. My point, they were NOT called "B" bodies in 1962. The 1963 were called "B" bodies, and since they shared basically the same platforms, they back named the 1962's "B" bodies.
